I am in the process of writing a host of articles that will describe the way in which to convert files using VLC Media Player. The application itself is great, the more I use VLC Media Player the more I find myself enjoying it and I suspect it will soon become my sole media player. However, it is a little rough to use so I intend to write a series of guides clearing up how to use it.
