My New Website - Esoteric Articles

I am beginning to work on a website that will be devoted to my articles, which I later intent to distribute also on Youtube and such. I am hoping that over time it may replace what I do on Associated Content, or at least become the bulk of my online authorial activitiy.

Regardless, here is the link: Esoteric Articles

7 New Articles

Alright, updating my article listing again with some fairly esoteric articles, few of which really relate to each other.

Stargate Universe Nicholas Rush Character Analysis

Writing character analysis articles are probably my favourite, so I decided to do one on Dr. Nicholas Rush from the new Stargate Universe series. I got in particularly early with this one, so if the series becomes popular I think the article will do really well. Furthermore, I think Rush is a fantastic character and I cannot wait to find out more about him as Stargate Universe goes on.

Final Fantasy VII Jenova Analysis
Final Fantasy VII Sephiroth Character Analysis

Generally speaking, Final Fantasy 7 fandom has done most things to death. I really liked the game, but I am nowhere near as into it as some. However, I do have a somewhat different view of things than most who like the series and as a result wrote these articles concerning it.

Final Fantasy X Anima Summon Analysis

This was a little different from my general character analysis, I decided to analyse the Aeon named Anima and its relation to Seymour. This was a fairly difficult article to write overall, because it required a brief summary of some psychoanalytical ideas that are not so easy to give brief summaries of. Not sure this article works, really.

How To Avoid Annoying Shop Assistants
Annoying Things To Do
Six Reasons Santa Is Not So Nice

These articles a bit silly really, but I hope they will perform well.

New Articles

Ecco the Dolphin Vortex Analysis

This article has been on Associated Content for a day and has already received 33 page views, which is suprising. This could very well be one of my best performing articles and it is an analysis of the enemy from a very old game.

Final Fantasy 8 Ending Analysis

The ending to Final Fantasy 8 is something I have always intended to analyze for my own sake. I do not expect this article to make any real money, I wrote it for myself.

Expensive Wedding Rings Immoral?

Personally, I find the idea that I must by an expensive wedding ring to marry a woman repulsive. It is not so much the money, rather it is that a gesture of love should depend on money. I wrote this article in response, bit disappointed I did not get any angry comments!

Human Alpha Male: Myth or Fact?

I was sick of reading the constant talk of alpha males in human society, I believe it a very flawed concept and have written this article in response.

Other People's Content

Often, I find myself really impressed by other people's content on AC and feel compelled to advertise it.

John Mario

John Mario writes on a collection of topics, but where I find him impressive is in regards to his electrical engineering knowledge. He presents information in a very succinct form, I often find him far easier to understand than textbooks.

Here is an article by him:

Electronics: Digital Circuit Design 1

Amanda King

Amanda King writes in a number of topics, but sticks to personal events and situations. She writes a number of articles which deserve more controversy than they generate. Here is an example:

10 Guys That Women Should Avoid

Been Lazy

I have been quite lazy lately with updating my blog, primarily because my page views just do not seem to be increasing at the rate I would hope. Anyway, here are some articles:

Top Five Movie Anti-heroes

I have always liked anti-heroes, there is something immensely entertaining about them. I have recvently been watching the movie Taxi Driver repeatedly and just had to right an article that included some reference to it.

Final Fantasy 8 Squall Character Analysis

This particular article underperformed quite severely, which was disappointing as I feel that it was an interesting article. I particularly enjoy writing character analysis articles and intend to do a lot more of them if they promise page views.

Final Fantasy X Auron Character Analysis

Final Fantasy X Tidus Character Analysis

These performed better than the Final Fantasy VIII versions, but overall were disappointing as well.

Laptop Guide Articles

I have finished most of what I believe will be a series of articles concerning purchasing a laptop. I got the idea when I was called for advice concerning laptops and what particular purchase to go for. Furthermore, I was suprised to find that there were not as many articles which described in very simple detail what to go for, specifically concerning video cards and general hardware. Here are the articles listed:

Five Things To Check Before Buying A Laptop

This article was meant to be the simplest article, which gives the information in as summarized manner possible.

Choosing The Right Laptop Form Factor

This article was meant to be a guide for choosing the physical make of the laptop, overall it turned out really well and I personally wish I knew some of the stuff in that article when I went to purchase a laptop.

Choosing The Right Laptop Hardware

The hardware article is the most important article because it is where most people go wrong and also the most critical aspect as upgrading laptops is difficult

Choosing The Right Laptop Software

The software article could just as wel be a general computing article truly, as it does not specifically go with laptops.

Adolf Hitler's Skull

An interesting article I found on Associated Content concerning Adolf Hitler's skull being said to be female. The main reason I find the article interesting is that the details concerning Hitler's death have always interested me for the simple reason that someone that caused so much trouble died in such a seemingly simple way. It has always amazed me when a dictatory has managed to get power, given how easily that same dictator could be potentially killed. As such, I think it says something more about a time period or a nation than an individual person. I live in Australia, and I just do not think a dictator could rise to power without being killed by someone pretty quickly really.

Also, topics like this interest me because of a strange phenomen where the more important something is the fuzzier it gets. For instance, religious articles on wikipedia are less reliable than articles on chlorination of methane because the first is considered more important and thus keeps being edited, new information, etc. It reminds me of how many people have gotten away with killing celebrities, because so much effort went into investigating the matters that it produced more leads, and thus more doubts, than a normal investigation would have. JFK assassination comes to mind.

Anyway, the article is here.

Tech Guide Articles

Three of my most overwhelmingly popular articles are actually technology guides, which is something that suprised me. Here they will be listed and my speculation to their popularity:

USB Headphones vs Audiojacks Headphones

This particular guide actually came about from my own research concerning the difference in quality of two devices, and my experiences with them. As such, it was not originally meant to be an Associated Content article but actually ended up turning into one of my most visited and popular articles.

Speed Up Windows Vista with a USB Flashdrive and Ready Boost

In honesty, this article is underperforming compared to what I expected. Perhaps it is because it is too niche or the title is not efficient in search engines. That said, it is a good article and gets a few visits here and there.

Playing FLV Files in Windows Media Player

One of my best performing articles, it must be due to the immense popularity of Windows Media Player and the relatively low amount of articles exploring this particular issue.

Playing FLV Files In Winamp

Not performing as well as its Windows Media Player sibling, must be due to less use of Winamp or more tech guides for winamp blocking it.

Pulp Fiction Character Analysis Articles

Since last posting on this blog, I have written a great number of articles. Among them I have included an analysis of Pulp Fiction characters and the idealogies which they represent, which to my mind is a very central aspect of the film. Herein they are listed and my experience with writing them:

Pulp Fiction Vincent Character Analysis

This was actually my favourite article to write as Vincent Vega was in my opinion the best character of Pulp Fiction. This is probably because of his ties to logic and my own favouring of logic as a method of examining the world.

Pulp Fiction Mia Character Analysis

The second Pulp Fiction analysis article I wrote was of Mia. I do not really know why I selected her when I could have selected Jules second, which would probably have been a better choice really and more efficient.

Pulp Fiction Marsellus Character Analysis

I made the selection of Marsellus simply because he has a smaller role in the film and as such the article was easier and faster to write. Quite pathetic really, I know.

Pulp Fiction Jules Winnfield Character Analysis

I see Jules as essentially representing spirituality, which I have never really adhered to strongly so writing this article was not as much fun as writing the one for Vincent.

Video Game Fives Part 1

For associated content I have written a few articles in a series of video game top fives. These articles explore various sets of top five items related to video games. The first one of these was Top Five Video Game Composers, of which I listed the top five video game composers. In truth, I expected a larger reaction from people to this article, particularly because I listed a large quantity of Japanese composers high up. My second article was titled Top Five Scariest Games, of which of course Silent Hill 2 came as number one on the list. Third article was top five video game monsters, which you will have to read if you want to see what got rated as number one. Also check out the great octopus image I have used in the article caption, more games need giant octopuses and squid enemies. Top five video game guns was the fourth article, which I really enjoyed writing. Lastly, the top five bad taste video games was the final article in the five video game series I have written.

If you have any feedback, or wish for me to write a top five on another topic, please post a comment either here or on one of the articles below and I will be sure to do that. Feel free to argue as well.

Free Webmaster Tools

I wrote another article for associated content in which I explored three very useful web tools. Basically, I wanted to explore tools useful for websites and associated content articles. These tools are useful in things like search engine optimization.

Three Free Webmaster Tools

How to Choose a Good Video Game Gift

Another article published for Associated Content, this time a guide to choosing a good video game as a gift. Basically I have received a few video game gifts that just have not been all that good, so I decided to write an article that might help parents and the like choose video games. Basically something that most gamers would know but not something that people in general know.

Anyway, here is the link for those interested: How to Choose a Good Video Game Gift

Roger Ebert vs Games as Art

Following a relatively recent article on Roger Ebert's website in which Rober Ebert debated against Clive Barker's view that games are art, I decided to write an article which attempts to give a somewhat balanced view on the matter. Roger Ebert delivers some very flawed comments in regards to video games, one such comment he made in his review of Silent Hill was that after a few minutes of playing the brains of gamers shut off. He quoted research, but what he failed to take into account is that the brains of gamers shut off when they understood the game and hence would soon grow bored of it, not that playing games immediately means the brain shuts down.

What I do find interesting is the tenacity in which Ebert has persisted in pursuing this debate, I often wonder if he feels that the meaning of his life is threatened by movies becoming less important in the overall scheme of things now that they have to compete against other forms of media. That said, I doubt movies will ever truly disappear so I think if my assumptions are correct he is overreacting.

The article can be found in the link below.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories Preview - My First AC Article

My first article for associated content, a site for online freelancers, was a preview of the upcoming Wii and PS2 game entitled Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Basically, the article I wrote was an analysis of the trailers and an exploration of the ways in which the game itself changes and molds itself based on the psychology of the player.
